What do you think of when you hear the term synchronous instruction?
In a hybrid/remote environment, most people typically imagine a live streamed lesson where the teacher is explicitly teaching a skill or concept to the entire class, regardless of students’ location. And, as you may have experienced yourself, there are some significant challenges when it comes to this model of teaching! But, what if instead, we rethink what synchronous instruction could look like? What if we reimagined synchronous instruction so that those challenges dissipate significantly? What if, instead, we engaged in synchronous instruction through benchmark learning?
Join us to find out more about how this vision supports the 5E Model and instruction within the remote/hybrid environment.

In a remote and hybrid environment, a large part of a student’s day involves "tackling instructional activities." This session starts by taking a look at how the brain learns (The 5E Model). With this understanding in mind, we identify instructional activities that are aligned to the 5E Model of the learning progression and therefore provide a pathway to both rigor and success. Our lens for instruction will work whether students are learning from home or learning at school.
Plan so that your instructional activities represent the 5E Model . . . moving student learning beyond acquisition . . . and into retention.
